How Do You Use the Number Line to Help When Comparing Numbers? 

< is read as "less than". The number on the left is less than the number on the right.

> is read as "greater than". The number on the left is greater than the number on the right.

≤ is read as "less than or equal to". The number on the left is less than, or the same as, the number on the right.

≥ is read as "less than or equal to". The number on the left is less than, or the same as, the number on the right.

≠ is read as "not equal to". It means the numbers on both sides of the symbol are not the same.
