How do you solve word problems involving measurement of surface area?
You are wrapping a gift shaped like a rectangular prism. The gift’s dimensions are:
- Length: 10 inches
- Width: 10 inches
- Height: 5 inches
To know how much wrapping paper you need, find the surface area of the gift.
1. Find the area of each side:
- Top and bottom: These are each
- Front and back: These are each
- Left and right: These are each
2. Calculate the area for each pair of sides and add them up.
